About Artist :
William P. Badger, Jr. is a Hanoi-based American artist, who has lived and worked in Vietnam for 24 years.
His work incorporates the memories and images of Hanoi and its environs lodged in his sub conscience, and he seeks to plume this inner world, weaving thoughts and details into life in harmony with the present.
Since his first visit to Vietnam in 1993 as a university student, he has been enamoured with the country, and these works represent the moments and details recorded in his mind.
As such, his work is also a way of preserving and recording architectural details and nuances of Hanoi and its atmosphere, as well as the surrounding countryside. In his more recent works, he seeks to deconstruct these images and reassemble the pieces into collage-like, neo-cubist forms.
Also, a musician and active member of the vibrant Hanoi music scene through his electronic space jazz band Mukang Fields, William’s recent works see references to the Hanoi music scene. Music, architecture, and nature, and the emotions they evoke, as well as Vietnam present and past, continue to inform his work.

Music, architecture, nature, the passage of time, and the surreal are woven into the collage-like world of William Badger’s large-scaled work, “Shapes, Inspirations.”
A visual deep dive into the artist’s inner emotions, the work references the architecture of Saigon as well as his early impressions of Hanoi and its surroundings.
A prescient piece painted in 2015, it shows the artist performing electronic music in a mask, a prophecy fulfilled in 2020 – 2021.
