Biography

Antoine Kubler (b. 1979) grew up in Strasbourg, France. At the age of 17, he took his trip to Vancouver, and developed a taste for travel. Starting from 20, his interest for image and narration drew him to photography.

At 22, he eventually left France, spending the next two decades abroad, for studies first, then for work. Over the years, he has lived in various places, namely Norway, Hungary, Louisiana, Bavaria, Vietnam, Kenya and lately China, and has visited as often as possible the neighbouring countries, usually on his own. Through these travels, he has been lucky enough to discover landscapes, subjects, architecture, and lights, that are as beautiful as they are diverse.

Artistic Approach

After some attempts at travel writing, photography progressively became his main means to share his experiences and life abroad. A self-taught photographer, he has however a natural sensitivity and has developed an eye, thanks to experiences and exposure to beauty, fiction and awe.

A grateful nomad, Antoine refuses to specialise in a specific style of photography, and casually focuses instead on whatever beauty crosses his path. This chaotic, idle yet full of curiosity approach has led to varied images, a wide spectrum of experience, but also to irregular progress. However, a style has begun to emerge over the last ten years: strongly contrasted black and white, a penchant for symmetry and convergent lines, semi-monochromes, neon, back light… And always topics mixing his fascination for the beauty of nature, people, or human constructions, and his genuine pleasure in seizing and sharing an atmosphere or a detail.

Antoine’s photographs try to be generous, even naively so; usually positive, rarely documenting, with no other desire than being an invitation to travel, to explore, to imagine, and, sometimes, to dream.
